Fountain Square is a bit of a puzzle. There is an 18,000 square foot building here which has been on the map since the early 80's. It was once a bank (Bank One, 1st National Bank of Fenton) as the side of the building features drive-thru lanes. That may have been the original purpose. Eventually it housed an ice cream shop, counseling center, a hair salon, medical and dental outlets, with some offices.
The second chapter of this story comes from a man named Tim Birtsas, a former major league pitcher and longtime businessman (RBI Development Corp.) who lived in Davisburg. He proposed to expand on this by adding a 15,000 square foot shopping center that would include a restaurant, laundromat, a new post office and other amenities. The post office is there today. I am assuming that is the rebuild as there was already a smaller post office there.
There were also some housing units planned which may have been built. The idea was tie it in to downtown Davisburg and make it walkable. The only thing I am seeing as of April 2025 is the original building built in the early 80's which is now empty and for sale. I am not seeing any other buildings referring to the other plans. I am not even sure Mr. Birtsas owned the building that still stands there today. For all I know that street may have had a different name in the 80's also.
I am not sure how well a retail center would have done here. The place is off the road in the back end of tiny Davisburg. The traffic count is fairly low and you can drive right by Fountain Square St without even noticing it. Hence the reason it is all closed down today.
