Update Sept 10 2023: I went by this plaza again today and a local lady (who was very nice) gave me some history on the place. It was built in the 1990's by the son of a fairly well-off family but it never really took off. It had a gift shop, antique shop, restaurant, a drive-up coffee kiosk, a laundromat, and a small grocery store. There is also a building that looks like a small office or residence.
Most of the shops closed in a fairly short period of time. The place was built for about a million dollars but the last owner got it for a small fraction of that. There were tentative plans to build an amphitheater adjacent to the lot but the locals fought against it. Apparently there just wasn't enough local patronage and/or visitors to the area to support the plaza. During the winter months, the traffic count is even less. It's a shame really, because these are nice buildings that are still in good shape.
This little shopping, service plaza always fascinated me when I would drive by it. It was built in the early 2000's and contained some food, retail and services businesses. I found one ad for an antique shop here from 2007. It was last purchased by someone in 2021 for $105,000. As of 2023, it seems all stores are closed. The property is being maintained and the buildings look to be in good shape so maybe they will be used again. I am not sure if this place had an official name so I will use Forestville Shopping Plaza for now.
