This is a menswear chain that went head-to-head with Hughes & Hatcher. It goes back to 1931 and was based in Pontiac. It was founded by Abe Lapides and Monroe Osmun. Eventually Norm Wachler took over as COO. The company tried a spinoff discount store known as John Kent but those 4 stores were closed by November 1988.
By 1988, the chain was discounting heavily as the retail business was getting crowded with larger competitors. By 1989, the chain was closed. The article about Hughes and Hatcher closing is interesting. When one of your main competitors goes under, it might be a bad sign. This page will serve as a record for the entire chain and I will add information as I get it.
