Pennellwood was a vintage American Plan resort on Lake Chapin that opened in 1906. It was operated then by Edgar and Mary Pennell. It was sold to the Stacey Family who in turn sold it in 1973. They must have bought it back however because they owned it again in 2007. The resort featured 40 cabins along with swimming pools, tennis courts, boating, fishing, water skiing, bike riding, shuffleboard, volleyball, hayrides, etc. There was also a dormitory and recreation hall. At its peak they employed 30 people and housed 180 guests.
The resort was razed in 2007 and was slated to be redeveloped with 38 cottages by the Stacey family according to NBC news. That plan did not come to fruition however. Adventist Frontier Missions purchased the land in 2009. They built a facility on the lot where the old resort sat so I am using their address for reference. You can see some outlines on the ground of what may have been one of the tennis courts and some other remnants of the old resort.
