General Information:

The Tumble Inn started as a Dance Hall in 1936. It has also featured live entertainment, gas station, restaurant, and a bar at various times. It changed hands numerous times over the years. One attempt made at making the place work was in 1989 by Frank Smith. He had purchased what looked to be the dance hall (a Quonset Hut design) for $25k and put another $20k into it. He put it back up for sale and left town when Chippewa County Health Dept and the Michigan Liquor Commission shut him down over some problems with the building.

However, after that time the place was re-opened as a concert venue and bar. I was surprised to see some fairly large national rock acts had played this place, given the location in a sparsely populated area. They included Slaughter, Vixen, Vince Neil, Nuclear Assault, Tuff, and Warrant. These shows occurred between 1994-1997.

As far as I can tell from the historical aerial photos, the place sat on the NE corner of M-28 and M-123. There is nothing left of it as of 2024. The structures on that corner were gone by 2005. The address I am using is approximate as that corner no longer has an address.
