FILION, Huron County: named for Desire Filion who located here in 1861, opened a store some two years later, and became the first postmaster on Feb. 18, 1876, serving some thirty years; its township of Meade was organized in 1869 and named for General George G. Meade, Union commander, with Spencer A. Case as its first supervisor [Gwinn; PO Archives] .
