Tuscola County: named for the Gilford family who lived on the northeast corner Of the crossroads here. James A. Black became the first postmaster on June 8, 1869. The Office was closed on July 12, 1875, but was restored on Aug. 5, 1878, With furniture manufacturer Solon E. Stanton as postmaster, and has been operating since (Claudie R. Horne, PMI)
