Barry County: the first settler, a half mile from the present town, was Rev. Moses Lawrence who bult 'his home on the shore of present Lake Lawrence in 1834. Surveyors in 1837 found a lagehickory tree in the center of Section 28 and with the building of 2 schoolhouse here that year it took the name of Hickory Corners. Solomon C. Hall built the first home in 1839 and was named the first postmaster on July 11, 1844 [Mrs. Roger E. Davis, wife of PM]
