Montcalm County: the first settler in the area was Charles Deaner in 1860. The village was founded by George W. O'Donnell in 1874, and he named it for his wife, Vesta Burgess O'Donnell; he platted the village in 1875 and became its first postmaster on Sept 14 1855. The office was closed On Nov 30 1877, but has been restored Since Jan 2 1878. Its railroad station also dates from 1875 [Elsie C. Throop, PM; PO Archives]
