BERVILLE. St. Clair County: named to contain the first syllable of the name of its township, Berlin. Speculators began buying its land by 1835 and actual settlement began by 1840, with Lewis Smith, John A. Warner, and Townsend Lockwood being among the pioneers. William F. Hewett became its first postmaster on Feb 5, 1862, the office being until July 31, 1962. Also known as Baker's Corners [Blinn; Jenks]
