The township was organized in 1839. The first house in it was built by Adam Bunker after whom some say the township was named, Older maps call its Village Bunker Hill Center, present day ones use Bunker Hill or Bunkerhill. Harvey Taylor became its first postmaster on Feb. 12, 1841. The office was closed on Feb. 5, 1842, but was restored from Dec 21, 1848 to March 14, 1903. [Michigan Named Places - Walter Romig]
