Summary from Flint Journal articles:
Sherwood Forest was started by Don Sherwood in 1958 and began with a hall which could be rented for weddings, dances, and other events. In 1959 an outdoor stage was added. By the early 1960s, major acts were being booked here such as Smoky Robinson, members of Grand Funk, Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes, Bob Seger, Brownsville Station, ? and the Mysterians, and many others.
By 1973 law enforcement began raiding the place due to rowdy behavior and alleged drug use. Local residents and city government began turning against the venue and were pressuring them to close. There was a featured show called "Wild Wednesday" and the last one was in 1974 with Seger, Montrose (with Sammy Hagar), Spooky Tooth and others performing. By 1980 the venue was sold. By 1989 the lodge was destroyed by fire. That was the end of the venue.
I visited the lot today and it is hard to imagine sizable concerts were held there. Richfield is a 2 lane road and the driveway and gate are still present. I can imagine traffic and noise were an issue when the place was operating. The property came up for sale in 2025 and is zoned residential so maybe a subdivision will get built on the old land. Kind of a shame.
