The theater in the 1600 block of N. Saginaw was the Star Theater, not the Jewell. I lived nearby on Mary St. in the late 30s. The owners of the Star, Booths, lived across the street from us; they had a Deusenberg automobile, which they seldom drove. Salems Department store was north of the Star, on the corner of Page St., and a shoe repair shop, Franks, was on the south side. Purchases from neighborhood merchants received Friday night raffle tickets which were very popular. Razed in 50s.
