FARMINGTON HILLS , MI , March 22, 2005 — Capitalizing on Detroit ’s craving for new and exciting entertainment options, Farmington Hills-based Movies at the Drive-In, L.L.C. will open the Riverfront 4 Movie Theaters at the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit this spring. The 4-screen, 680-seat movie complex will offer first run films in a contemporary setting in Tower 200, Level 2 of the Renaissance Center . “It’s exciting to be a part of the rebirth of downtown Detroit , and to give residents and visitors a great, affordable entertainment venue in the city,” said J. Ronald Slavik, Movies At The Drive-In, LLC Managing Partner. “In addition to showing movies, we plan to create special theme nights and pay-per-view events in concert with major cable TV operators, and with the great restaurants that are located in the Renaissance Center and the surrounding area, it is a complete entertainment experience.” Slavik and partners Joseph Cobb and Kenneth Stocker operate Movies at the Drive-In, L.L.C., parent company of the Riverfront 4 Theaters. Other special events will also include movie-and-dinner specials with many of the GM Renaissance Center restaurants. Riverfront 4 will feature state-of-the art motion picture equipment with comfortable amenities for moviegoers. Parking will be easily accessible and affordable, with free, secure surface lot parking and $2 valet parking. Located in the space that previously housed theaters, the Riverfront 4 Theatres will undergo a $1 million renovation of the original movie theatre space in Tower 200. The movie theatre was closed in 2001 due to the Center’s redevelopment construction work. Synergy of Troy is the general contractor for the renovation of the Riverfront 4 Theaters. The Riverfront 4 Theaters will be the third venture for Movies at the Drive-In, L.L.C. Movies at the Drive in also operates the Silverdome Drive-In, on the grounds of the Pontiac Silverdome, which opened in 2003, and the Compuware Sports Arena Drive-In Theater in Plymouth , which opened to the public last summer. Both venues show different first-run double features on outdoor screens during the seasonal months, and boast a number of modern-day improvements over the traditional drive-in movie theater, including state-of-the-art sound and picture quality and upscale concessions. The Riverfront 4 Theaters at the GM Renaissance Center is the latest venture of Movies at the Drive-In, LLC; Movies at the Drive-In, LLC is the operating company of the Compuware Sports Arena Drive-In Theater and the Silverdome Drive-In.

I attended a film at one of their auditoriums during one of my infrequent visits to Detroit. It was probably in the '80s, and was one of the James Bond features. The only thing that really sticks out is that the screen seemed a bit under width so the full scope aspect ratio could not be shown. It looked like the edges were chopped off. (I'm a former projectionist)

New cinema, restaurant to open at RenCen From the Crains Detroit Business Newsroom December 17 17:24:00, 2003 By Brent Snavely General Motors Corp. said today that first-run movies will return to the Renaissance Center this spring with the opening of Cinema Grill and also said that a Sweet Georgia Brown partner has teamed with jazz flutist Alexander Zonjic and Detroit Lions star Robert Porcher to open a restaurant. Cinema Grill will open on the second floor of the RenCen’s Tower 200. The Atlanta-based Restaurant Entertainment Group will own the theater. The company and its franchisees operate 26 conventional theaters and 32 theaters with cafés or restaurants in 18 states. The new, four-screen theater will be in the same location as the Renaissance Center Cinemas, which closed in 2001. Admission will be $3.75 before 6 p.m. and $6.50 after 6 p.m. The Cinema Grill’s Detroit menu will include more than 20 appetizers, several salads, entrees such as pizza, desserts and beverages including wine and beer.
