The theater opened in 1926 and was one of Detroit's premier venues for plays and musicals, until the remodeled Fisher theater re-opened in 1962. The Cass theater at this Grand River address would have been an early, small silent movie house that was quickly outmoded when the movie palaces like the Madison and Capitol opened.
