The Mason Twin was opened in 1974 by two Michigan State University faculty members, a Lansing area attorney, and an experienced theater manager. The hope was to draw in people from surrounding areas like Stockbridge and Leslie. The house was 2nd run early on as the film bookers favored the larger Lansing-area theaters, a common tale for small upstart theaters.
The town hadn't had its own theater since the Farr Theater in downtown Mason closed 15 years prior. The Mason Twin was housed in a shopping plaza that still stands today although the theater is long closed. I believe it shut down in the mid to late 1980's. A few retail outlets have occupied the space since, most recently a Family Farm store.
