Angelo's Sunset View Motel was built by the Angelo family in 1952. They were Italian immigrants who came to Chicago in 1908. While there, they opened a modest store. Eventually they moved to Benton Harbor and opened a store at 4th St and Territorial downtown. They bought the property for the motel in 1951 and it started with 8 units which was expanded to 17 units then finally 22 units.
The motel site also had an Italian restaurant and a gift shop. Originally this stretch of road was Old 31, then it became US-33 and today it is M-63. The motel is mentioned in the newspaper archives up until about 1988. By 1997 the motel was gone. There is no trace of it as of 2024. There were some buildings kitty corner across the street that may have been owned by the Angelo's also.
