This hotel goes back to 1915 and started out as the Newberry Hotel. However, there are mentions of a Newberry Hotel in the 1890's also. It was opened by Duncan Campbell. He sold it to R. B. Sayles in 1942, who owned it well into the 1970's. Sayles was also president of the Upper Michigan Tourist Association in the 1960's. The Hotel has been open off and on over the years but as of 2023 it seems to be closed for now.
