The Gateway goes back to the 1950's or before. It started out with a single structure as seen on the postcard and aerial photo below. Eventually a 2 story structure was added out front which can be seen on the 1960's aerial photo and postcard. In the 50's, 28th Street was sparsely populated with buildings. Now, it is a fairly major thoroughfare in the area. The Gateway was demolished sometime before 1999 to make way for what is now a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant as of 2023.
