Update Jan 20 2024: Apparently this was also the Petoskey Motor Court. The assumed names were listed at the same address and the phone number was the same. So was the intersection, although there were multiple motels at 31 and 131. The motel was liquidated in 1999 according to the news archives. A Walgreen's sits on the site as of 2023.
This motel was on a corner in which there were several motels. By the 2000's, it had become drug store corner and the motels were gone. The Superior brand was what is called a "referral chain" in the lodging business. The motels are owned independently by local operators, but are promoted like a chain as long as they meet certain criteria. A modern day example that still exists is Best Western.
From Wikipedia: "Other referral chains included "Superior Courts United" (1950, renamed "A Superior Motel" in 1964, last membership renewals 1979) whose four-leaf clover logo ("Travel Superior Courts United Inc. And Be Sure!") graced over 500 motels (mostly on the Atlantic coast) in the mid-1960s." I haven't seen any other Superior outlets in Michigan but I will keep an eye out for it.
This motel was once run by Larry & Ken Sieradski and Mr. and Mrs. K. Cybulski in the earlier days.
