The Seville goes back to the 1950's. Unlike it's many counterparts, the Seville has managed to avoid the wrecking ball and is still operating as of 2022. There has been pressure over the years from Royal Oak homeowners to destroy these old motels and many have been already. Not this one. See this entry on the Kingswood Motel for more background on the motel issue in Royal Oak.
I read some human interest stories in the Detroit papers about this motel and others, profiling folks who were staying their long term and stressing the need for housing in the area. They seemed designed to change the minds of the locals who wanted to demo these joints. That and the fact the Seville looks decently maintained, probably saved the place.
