This motel goes back to the 1930's. I finally figured out where it was thanks to a historical document the Three Lakes Association put together. Junker's was on the site of where Sunset Torch Condominiums sits as of 2023. In 1970 the Junker's site was rezoned to single-family residential housing. Developers then bought the property and planned to put a 74 unit condo complex on it and began work.
Voters rejected the zoning and the Three Lakes Association got the construction halted. The developers sued the TLA and the case dragged on for 8 years. In 1978 the case was settled via compromise. The developers were allowed to build no more than 28 units. That resulted in Sunset Torch Condominiums. The bottom line is the Torch Lake community did not want to see the shoreline overbuilt and over commercialized.
