The Blue Sky Drive-In opened in 1948, around the same time as two other area drive-ins, the Walled Lake Drive-In (better known as the Walake) and the Pontiac Drive-In. Initially operated by Northeast Drive-In Theatre Corp., the Blue Sky Drive-In later became part of the National Amusements chain. It originally had space for around 700 cars.
The Blue Sky Drive-In was demolished in 1989 to make way for the Showcase Cinemas Auburn Hills megaplex, which, in turn, closed in 2002, due to competition from the new Star Theatres Great Lakes Crossing 25, also in Auburn Hills.
