The Twin Oaks restaurant goes back to the 1950's. I found records of 2 different owners, Leonora Hatter and April M. Cleary who ran it in the 1970's. The only photo I have was from an old Dowagiac High School Yearbook. There was a 1977 article regarding an addition to the rear of the structure to act as living quarters. That request was submitted by Thelma Haefer.
There was a fire in 1989 that probably destroyed the place. There is a house on the lot today that was built in 2002 so I think it sat empty for a few years after the fire. You can see on the historical aerial photo the original building sat back off the street to allow for parking. The house that is there now is lined up with the rest.
