Alice's restaurant was started by Alice Rieves and her then husband Jerry in 1977. Within a decade, the restaurant had closed and her marriage to Jerry had ended, according to the article below. Alice picked herself up, started over, and worked as a waitress for a time. Eventually, that led to her taking over St. Clair's only soup kitchen, the Mid City Nutrition Soup Kitchen, which is still operating in Port Huron. She became executive director. Alice received the Heart of a Hero award in 2021 for her tireless work in helping the less fortunate. The old Alice's restaurant on Clinton now houses a State Farm branch and it looks well-maintained. Its a nice setting right across the street from the water.
