Although the official address of the Blue Rooster was 1480 E Chicago Rd, the building it was in is actually 1400 on Google Maps. This was a well-loved truck stop that was opened in the 20's on US-12, east of Jonesville. It has a classic sign out front that is a throwback to the 50's probably. It was last operated by Jean Maynard, a local woman who was determined to keep the place going. She changed the name from the Pink Panther, which apparently had a dicey reputation. It was also known as the Windmill back in the mid-1960's.
According to a news report, there were past due utility bills that became Jean's responsibility after she took possession. A benefit concert was held by a local businessman to help with the costs of that. From what I can gather, it was open for a time but seems to have closed in early 2016. It is a shame as this place was classic. The building has degraded quite a bit since and it looks too far gone to save as of 2022. Hopefully I am wrong.
