This 40 acre fun park was about 2 miles north of where Interlochen Fine Arts Camp sits today. Here is a 2009 Yelp Review from Joy L to give you a sense of the place. Apparently it closed in 2008. I would estimate an early version of this place opened in the late 70's or early 80's, according to historical aerial photographs. I think they built it up over time, adding attractions as they went along. The property was slated to be redeveloped into an RV park but so far not much has happened on that as of late 2024.
"Spent a summer as a counselor at Interlochen Arts and there's not much to do out in the middle of the woods on the lower peninsula. Fun Country is a little beacon of civilization for students and staff of Interlochen. It's a small, but well maintained fun park with waterslides, go-karts, an arcade, mini golf and snacks. On our day off, a group of fellow counselors and I spent the day at Fun Country and had a great time. We had a blast racing on the go-karts! It's been a few years so I don't remember if we played mini golf or went on the water slides, but we must have. I just KNOW that we had a rocking time on the go-karts so that's all I remember.
If you have cause to be in Interlochen during the summer, this is a fun place to spend the day. There were lots of families there with small children, as well as older kids as well. And then us over sized kids too. The place is really low-key and safe, with lots of parents mulling about. Wish we had a place like this where I live because it would be a family favorite if we had one.
