General Information:

The Rainbow theater was located directly across the street on Grand River from the Rivera theater. In the forties my friends and I attended movies a few times a year. I don't know when it was closed, sometime in the fifties I would think.

About 1939 or 1940 the Rainbo must have attained its greatest audience when it presented the then-notorious "Ecstasy" starring Hedy Keisler (better known later as Hedy Lamarr). The Czech film, from 1932, reputed to show nude shots of Hedy, was a rerelease with added narration (it was originally silent). Just how graphic the rerelease was I cannot say. I was just eight years old at the time but I can still remember the long lines of patrons waiting to be admitted to the next showing.
