This theater will close in July 2014 as the new Regal 12 will open across the parking lot. Here is the story from Lansing State Journal. The Lansing Mall’s theater complex will show its last movies in July as a new cinema prepares to open with twice as many screens. The six-screen cinema, part of Grand Rapids-based chain Goodrich Quality Theaters Inc. and located in a Lansing Mall outlot building, will close July 10, the company said. It has been open for 15 years. A 12-screen Regal Cinemas multiplex is under construction in a former Mervyns department store wing on the north side of the Delta Township shopping mall. It should open this year. The theater should open in midsummer, possibly July, said Jewel Gallagher, a spokeswoman with Knoxville, Tenn. -based chain Regal Entertainment Group. Reed Simon, a regional manager for Goodrich, said the existing theater’s lease ends at the end of July, and competition from Regal is the main reason the chain decided not to renew, Simon said. “Our time at the Lansing Mall was very special to us,” he said. Goodrich said gift cards and movie passes must be used before July 10, but can be used after that at its other theaters in Michigan. The next closest theaters are within 50 miles of Lansing in Jackson, Hastings and Lowell. Goodrich also operates theaters in Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
