Entry Date: 3/7/2009 - Greg Hunt: I was almost sent there as GM in 1986 I think but instead sent to the Southland 4 which is also now retail space in Southland Mall.
Entry Date: 5/14/2005 - Moviegirl: I worked at the Old Orchard from July 1996 until the end of AMCs reign in January of 1998.
The theatre was sold to a company out of Ohio called Great Eastern theatres after that and opened again in March (or so) of 1998, but closed later that summer after making the mistake of booking "Godzilla" (the remake that came out that year) on all 3 screens ... which tanked horribly needless to say!
I was close friends with many of the employees, most of which had stayed on from their AMC days and I was there helping to pack up and close down the building.
I will always remember shutting the exit door to theatre 1 that last time ... I have tons of pix of the place from the 80s on through the end!
I will try and scan them and send them to you!
Entry Date: 1/13/2004 - Cinema Treasures: Opened in 1971 for Suburban Detroit Theaters as twin, the Old Orchard I & II, each of the auditoriums could seat 650. The theater opened with "Scrooge" and a reissue of "Doctor Zhivago".

The Old Orchard was copied a year later in the Parkway I & II, in Mount Clemens (which was closed in the 80s, and later gutted for retail use).

During the late 70s, a third auditorium was tacked on to the Old Orchard (renamed the Old Orchard 1,2,3), bringing total seating to over 1600.

During the 80s, the theater was sold to the AMC chain, which operated it until the late 90s as the AMC Old Orchard 3. After closing as a movie theater, it briefly housed a church before being acquired by the Holocaust Memorial Center in 2001, which was looking for a larger location than its home in West Bloomfield. The former theater was almost entirely demolished and rebuilt, and is scheduled to open by the end of August 2003.

The Holocaust Center will not only include museum space, but classrooms, a library and offices.

Entry Date: 5/28/2003 - Bryan: This is the new site of the Holocaust Museum due to open in mid 2003.
Entry Date: 1/6/2003 - WaterWinterWonderland: The Old Orchard has been torn down as of September 2002.
It was last used as a church.
